unique special place
Michael K.

Great view of Lake Ontario and woods are special. You can be inside or out.nice deck and if you have trouble walking you can park in grass close to cotage on right of way. Tree lover-View in front of of house is fantastic. At cottage Kids can fish off shore or swim, neighbor is friendly. Great place for a family reunion and kids to play outdoors. Traffic in a non issue. Close enough to drive to town (sodus point) for a great meal at several excellent places and public beach in town for little kids to play , lifegurards are on duty public lake beach, plus there is life gurad bay swimming, and there is public pier that you can walk out or fish on. (Fishing charters available in town too.) Golf course near by. Don't ignore the food shack at beach, beach house and restrooms well maintained at the public beach. At the cottage their Room for tenting outside for teenagers, or extra guests.

The photos at the cottage were accurate. The owners and Jon and Nancy are great to deal with.

This is summer cottage that is what we really enjoyed.

Gorgeous views, great yard & beach & very fun and relaxing.

The photos are real! We visited this summer, and truly enjoyed our stay.

The sunrises & sunsets are amazing, a big yard and it’s surrounded by old flowering fruit orchards for interesting walks & birds. We even saw bald-eagles flying overhead!

The cottage was very well equipped with lots of windows, but the tap water was a little ‘hard’ (bring bottled water). Despite it’s age, it was pretty & spacious.

Owners live right next door, so can fix any problem if you ask.

The private beach very relaxing. The water was crystal clear & refreshing, but there was a strip of ‘round stones’ before the sand that made water-shoes or old sneakers a ‘must’.

It’s a very fun & safe private neighborhood. Everyone is very friendly, mostly ‘owners’.

However we did meet one exception: an old woman flagged us down on the dirt road, to scold us over ‘driving too fast’ and letting our dogs run loose. Must be the neighborhood Nanny. It was memorable, although we likely deserved it.

There are many restaurants, boats to lease & nightlife in nearbye ‘Sodus Point’, plus a wonderful pier for fishing & walking, beach & lighthouse park. We enjoyed the closer 'Steger Haus' restaurant, -great JagerSchnitzel & Prime Rib. Old fashioned but a great deal!

Shopping & supplies are in ‘Sodus Town’. (Town & The Point are two different nearbye places). Maxwell creek park is also very closebye with park, beaches & ponds.

There’s a nice brick fire-site for campfires & between the quiet starlit nights & peaceful swims, -we really enjoyed our stay.

Best, bargain vacation, we’ve enjoyed in years.

We hope to return, very soon!

Relaxing & kid friendly

I stayed here for almost a week while visiting family in the area. My kids had a blast swimming and exploring the woods and orchards.. Everyone was hospitable and welcoming but we had privacy. We loved sitting on the porch watching the water as the sun went down. Just an all around wonderful experience.

We Loved It

We loved this place and would definitely recommend it and rent again. We had originally planned this as our Finger Lakes trip, but we aren't boaters, we love quiet and privacy, and we have an elderly dog who loves to play in the water but isn't the strongest swimmer. We didn't find the perfect rental on any of the Finger Lakes and felt this was the right place for us. While we did see a lot of the Finger Lakes and even Niagara Falls, the cottage was the best part of our vacation. It was attractive, clean and had room to spread out with multiple dining and lounging areas, both inside and out, and plenty of big windows, a very nice layout. Very well equipped kitchen and great grill with all the tools. Very comfortable seating and beds, plenty of pillows, cushions, quilts and blankets, and reading lamps all over. This is a very well furnished place and everything was in good working order. Awesome views of the lake from every room, both decks and the huge yard. The lake was great to watch, ever changing, and the cottage has the best lakefront setting we saw with very easy lake access with a slight slope, great trees and nice lawn. The pictures are very accurate but don't capture a week's worth of views. The lake was crystal clear and a comfortable temperature with a very mild slope, very safe for our dog. The little neighborhood on the bluff was very quiet and private. We only saw a handful of people the whole week. The surrounding area was very pleasant with enough nearby places to eat and shop. We're sorry we missed Steger Haus but really enjoyed the pizza and wings at Truck's Oven, Mexican food at El Rincon, ice cream at Hot's Point and fresh produce and other goodies at Burnap's Market. Both of the closest grocery stores had good selections. Traffic was almost non-existent and everything was within a five to ten minute drive. The town of Sodus Point was pretty as were many of the surrounding towns. There was even a winery on the other side of the bay near Chimney Bluffs. Overall, the area, the property setting and the cottage were just right for our vacation. Jan and Nancy were great to deal with, very informative and responsive to our questions. We really enjoyed learning about the history of the cottage and the Sprongs Bluff area. We were content and well rested after a week, and very sad to leave.

Our Slice of Paradise
Kevin&Mary

We recently rented this house for our 7th time and have thoroughly enjoyed this gem each of the six years we have stayed. Each time we return, the property wraps itself around us as we are warmly welcomed by the owner Nancy and her family who offer us whatever hospitality we may need to make our stay pleasurable. We are always treated like family.

We always find the house and property to be immaculate and the layout of the house affords spectacular lake views. Our son and daughter-in-law come when they can and we all enjoy the comfort of the house as well as the amenities of the lake and property.

There are many gems to find and explore from Oswego (to the east) to Rochester (to the west) and the Finger Lakes (to the south) but the gem we enjoy the best is the house at the lake. We consider it to be one of the most beautiful, most pure locations that nature can offer.

We already miss our house and our family at the lake and look forward to returning next year.

Great vacation property
Laura H.

We stayed at the cottage for two nights a few weeks ago and fell in love with it. The plot of land is HUGE, so there is plenty of room for kids to play games and run around. We stayed in the water for several hours one day enjoying the clear and calm lake. The views are gorgeous, whether you are on the back deck, sitting near the fire pit, or swimming on the lake. The cottage is older, charming and homey. Plenty of room for our family of four with additional room for others if needed. Sodus point is only about 4 miles away for shopping, boating, public beaches and entertainment. I would much rather stay here, than at the point. You can NOT beat the sunset and tranquility. Owners are kind and receptive and right next door to lend a hand if you need anything or have any questions about the area. I agree with other comments that you should bring your own water, but also note that the cottage was very clean and well kept! Great walking paths through apple orchards – spotted an Owl on the hike! I’m giving this rental high ratings – it’s the best family vacation I can remember and look forward to renting again!

Cozy Little Cabin
Joe

This is a cozy cabin right on the lake! I was fishing at Maxwell Creek, this is a perfect location for that.

A private setting, on the water, with the veiw! Very quiet as is off the main road. The owner was very helpful with local restrants and stores,(a map) Clean and well kept place. A full kitchen, plus the dishwasher!

For fishing this location is perfect. Close to the bait shop(Sodus Point) Maxwell is 1/4 mile down the road.

Makes for a quick lunch, than back to fishing!

My husband, mother-in-law and I enjoyed this beautiful property for a few nights. While the weather was not ideal, we had a great time playing cards and games overlooking the beautiful Lake Ontario bay. Very private, roomy and comfortable for an older property. Lots of character! Sunsets are stunning. Family was very pleasant and enjoyable to talk with and answered all questions and requests.

Lovelly place on a grassy hill above beach area. Beautiful view of lake, birds, sunsets, boats. Easily swim able spot. Had a wonderful time despite three days of rain. Apple orchards and nice woods with trails for walking; birding paradise. Quiet, private spot. Roomy and includes front and rear decks with plenty of seating. Appreciate the nice gas grill and the pet friendly attitude.

The inside of cottage was cozy and comfortable with ample seating and two tables for playing games.

Of note- spotty Internet service and dryer was not working.

All in all, three 50 something women had a great time and would highly recommend this spot. Well worth the cost.

nice place with a great view

We had a great week there. The views of Lake Ontario are great from the deck or inside the cottage. The sunsets were very nice. We didn't see the meteor showers though due to the clouds.

The cottage beach is stony, but Sodus Point has a nice sandy beach and is only 3 miles away. We found lots to see and do in the area including Chimney Bluff State Park. Burnap's Farm market is a great place and there is a very nice restaurant in Pultneyville.

We had a very nice and relaxing stay with all the conveniences of home.

Charming Cottage Getaway
ruth c.

This cottage has everything you could want for a vacation -- a park within walking distance (a trail literally starts across the street), boats to barrow for some paddling on Lake Ontario, campfire spot overlooking the lake, internet that's fast enough for streaming netflix/hulu. Plus there are great places to get food that are only a few miles away, including a farmer's market store and great local Mexican restaurant. The place was clean, well-maintained, and the owner was helpful and quick to respond to any questions. Would strongly recommend to anyone in Rochester looking for a an easy spot to getaway to -- less than an hours drive yet you feel like you're in another world.

Quaint Cottage on the Lake
John W.

I rented this cottage for a weekend reunion of friends and by the end everyone was thanking me for finding such an amazing place and asking if we can do it all again next year at the same cottage. Stunning view of the lake from living room as well as the master bedroom and you will spend hours on the back deck taking it all in from there as well. If you're lucky you'll have gorgeous sunset to stare at during the evening. Walk right down to the lake through the backyard. Make a fire in the fire pit. Grill some dinner on the gas grill out on the front deck. Star gaze while laying in the empty field next door.

My friends an I were so busy enjoying the cottage and each others company that we didn't have enough time to do all the activities that Jan, the wonderful owner, had mentioned upon arrival. There are some trails very close by to explore as well a small bay to explore by kayak. Also, a nice beach a few more miles down by the larger Sodus Bay. There is a site manager a few doors down the road in case you have any problems or questions, which we did not. When it's time for bed you'll have plenty of cozy sleeping options. We fit 7 friends comfortably and the cost split between everyone was one of the best deals I've ever come across. It would still be a good deal and perfect place for a couple, or a family. I could go on and on but you just have to experience it for yourself. You won't be disappointed.

Great cottage on the lake!

My girlfiends and I stayed at this cottage on the lake and will definitely be returning again next year. Great cottage with awesome views of the lake, wonderful grounds to have a camp fire, hang out on the deck or walk along the beach. We all really enjoyed our stay. The cottage was very clean and the owner was very accomodating/friendly. Great girls weekend rental.

Nice Cottage, Close to Fishing
Dan

My Friends and I (8 total) rented this cottage to go fishing. Was Close to Maxwell Creek, and could accommodate all of us. This was our second trip here and won't be the last. The owner is very friendly and always got back to me quickly. Cottage is tucked away, so you don't have a lot of people running around, you get to relax.

A Place of Peace
Amber W.

Upon arriving at Ferryland Cottage we were greeted by two very nice ladies. I can not express how beautiful and relaxing this place is. The breath taking sunrises and sunsets, the endless rock/sand beach and beautiful views of the lake from each room in the house...are just a few of my favorite memories of Ferryland Cottage. Honestly, this vacation rental could not be more perfect. The owner provides detailed maps of the best local places to visit and the surrounding area is stunning. There is even a trail that leads to Beechwood State Park...which is beautiful to walk at any time of the day. This place is perfect for family, a romantic get away, or just a great place to gather with friends. There is not a single complaint about this rental...other than it may be difficult to convince yourself to leave. To this day my husband and I jokingly ask "What do you want to do today" and at the same time we answer "Go back to Ferryland!"

This is a beautiful spacious cottage with comfortable furniture. Both decks provide a delightful view of the lake, comfy lawn chairs and picnic areas. We enjoyed breakfast on the front deck and dinnerware on the back deck, as we watched amazing sunsets. We loved kayaking, swimming, hiking and watching the swans, eagles, herons, chipmunks, and hummingbirds. It was great to have a campfire overlooking the waterfront. Although we didn't use it much, tv is available in the loft as well as the living room, along with a DVD player and wifi. On a cooler evening,we enjoyed dining inside, with a gorgeous view of the Lake . It was fun to walk the shore, wade, and watch the boats/ships. BINOCULARS are a must. We enjoyed a close by farmers market and the beach at Sodus Point. Chimney Bluffs is a favorite of ours and is relatively close by. Mom stayed with us and appreciated a small step up to the deck and into the cottage,as well as grab bars in bathroom. Pots and pans, dishes, silverware,linens,...were all provided. We all loved our stay and plan to return. HATS OFF TO OUR HOSPITABLE,FRIENDLY HOMEOWNER!

We chose Ferryland cottage following my husband's surgery for just a few days away from home. Jan and Cindy were wonderfully helpful but not intrusive. The place was beautiful, peaceful, and we would go back and stay forever if we could! Also, we are geocachers and this place had at least 8 caches within walking distance and many more in the area. We also brought our dog who also loved it.

Peaceful. pleasant stay
Bridget H.

If Peace and tranquility is what you are looking for, this is your place to go! I came to relax, paint, read, and bond with my dog. We had a very pleasant stay.

The owner and property manager are wonderful people and do go out of their way to make you feel welcome. There are several places to go shopping in the area - whether for food, specialty shops, antiques, wineries, etc. The huge windows provide awesome views of the lake and let so much light in. I was able to set up and paint on the back deck - it was a very enjoyable vacation indeed.

Beautiful & peaceful location
Karen B.

Located right on Lake Ontario, with beautiful views from cottage. Beaver pond just several minutes walk through old apple orchard - and we enjoyed walking down there every day to watch the beavers. When we were there, it was cool most days and rainy a couple days, so not good for swimming or water activities, but the little round table in corner is great for puzzles or games, with a gorgeous view, and the heat was sufficient for cool, wet days. It would have been nice if the porch swing had been set up for the 2 warmish semi-sunny days we were there. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking, but I found the oven seemed hotter than the temp at which it was set. There are 2 bedrooms downstairs and an unheated sleeping loft upstairs. The master bedroom with queen bed is quite comfortable, with large window overlooking lake. WiFi reception good. The smaller bedroom has twin beds, and the mattresses seemed a bit old -- fine for kids, but maybe not for a picky adult. We ate most of our meals in, but there are several choices for eating out. Burnaps Apple Orchard has a great lunch, and is just about 5 minutes away (unfortunately not yet open for season during our stay). We went to the BBQ place out on 104 -- food was great, service not. We also went down to Lagoner Farm in Poultney - about 15 minutes drive. We'd been there before, but not for a meal, and they have a little pub and nice breakfast & lunch offerings open year around. Sodus Point is about 10 minutes away - it has beautiful views and a nice playground on the beach. Remember to bring jugs of water with you, as the water there has a bad taste. We forgot, but there is a gas station not far away that has water.

Million-dollar view
Carl H.

My wife and I stayed in this lovely cottage during the second week of May. We have stayed in many VRBO locations through the years, but the view of Lake Ontario from the deck is as spectacular as any I have seen. We enjoyed exploring the area. We are avid birders and found this cottage to be an excellent base for this interest. On the lake, we watched mergansers and loons, and an endless stream of gulls, terns and kingfishers. We saw a number of warblers in the trees around the cottage. The adjoining Beechwood State Park provided a number of different habitats to explore and was very uncrowded. Two excellent birding hotspots are nearby: Montezuma NWR is 45 minutes southeast of the cottage; and Sterling Nature Center is about 45 minutes northeast.

The cottage itself is older. It has obviously been happily used for a number of years. We were comfortable in the cottage. But if you prefer new or pristine furnishings and surroundings, you probably would be better served elsewhere.

Our dog loved the area, and we appreciate being able to bring her with us on our vacation. Jan was informative and easy to work with. We will return.

Perfect weekend
Jenny K.

The photos do not do this place justice! The view is incredible. I booked a weekend here with a group of friends for my birthday and it could not have been any more perfect. We had a blast taking the boats out and exploring the lake, relaxing by the water, chilling by the fire. The owners were very friendly and helpful. 10/10 would stay here again, and we plan to!

Impressed with the location, BUT
Venkatesh P.

We were traveling with our parents who are both 70+ and a pet. We rented this house for 4 nights. The first evening was like a much anticipated relaxing vacation. And then, post dinner, all hell broke lose. There was flooding in the kitchen from the sink and the dishwasher. We called the owner the next morning.

Amidst the non-stop apologies from the owner/care takers, it took them 3 days to resolve the issue. We couldn't use the kitchen or the laundry. We had people running in and out of the house all 3 days. We had to use the kitchen next door (also owned by the same owner). We ended up doing a lot of back and forth because the owner couldn't move us due to another booking. There was a very nasty smelling chemical used on one of the days while our pet was still in the house. And we couldn't use the laundry on any of the days.

The owner and care takers were apologetic and tried their best to make us feel better. (The owner even refunded us for 2 nights). But, we were the one's who bore the brunt of the inconvenience.Though it was a lovely location, home and the plumbing issues were probably just a one time freak incident, all the problems we faced doesn't make us want to rent this place again.

I travelled to this wonderful cottage for a weekend with several friends, and cannot express how beautiful it was. The stars over the lake, the sunsets from the back porch, and the orchards were all gorgeous. My friends and I kayaked around the point, taking in the sights and sound of nature and friendship. The indoors were clean and cozy, and we've struck up a friendship with the owners. I recommend exploring the coast of the lake!

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ferryland cottage. Everyone found something to do from hiking to kayaking and enjoying the beach to just enjoying the shady deck. The vacation I'd hoped for
Debra D.

We really enjoyed our stay at this property and agree with other reviewers' comments. The house was very clean inside, and we had no problems with bugs or anything else. The outside of the place could really use some TLC - gutters almost falling down, large branches over the back deck that should be trimmed back. There are also some steps in strange places in the house as well as the deck that could be a hazard for someone not so sure on their feet. The ceiling tiles in the living room and bedrooms are stained and some look close to falling down. I wasn't a fan of the tap water - it seems to have a water softener system, but still smells questionable and nothing ever felt very clean after washing.

That being said, I would stay here again. The views were beautiful, the area was quiet and remote, and Jan really made every effort to make the place welcoming and comfortable for all visitors. We especially enjoyed kayaking every day and were often the only people on the water as far as you could see. The fire pit area was really nice. Jan also provided all sorts of info on things to do and places to go. We went to Burnap's Garden Market and Cafe a couple of times for meals, morning coffee, and ice cream - only a mile away and really great!

Perfect for family fun.

We had a great time with both adults and children enjoying themselves. The lake was great and having the kayaks was so much fun for the kids. We brought a boat and found launching in Sodus Point easy and within 5 minutes from camp. Everything was clean, had plenty of towels and washer and dryer come in handy. Jan was very easy to work with. We drove 800 miles to stay here and would do it over again but for longer next time.

Had a great time, loved the cottage feel and new updates. Loved exploring the abandoned Girl Scout camp nearby, paddling in Maxwell Bay where we saw swans! The waves were too high for paddling or swimming most days, but falling asleep to the sound of the waves was lovely! Getting to share vacation with our dog was an added bonus.

Property was exactly as described, clean, and well-tended with every amenity you could need. The owner was very responsive and knowledgeable about the area. The cove was scenic and pleasant for swimming, exploring, and kayaking. The Lake Ontario area had flooded badly this year, but the property was set back from the water and therefore stayed dry and in good condition.

Incredible lake view and a cottage that has everything we needed
Kristina F.

We rented this cottage for two nights (sep 2 - sep 4). Four adults and a dog.

The cottage (which actually seemed to be an all season place btw) was very clean, it had everything we could possibly need: pots and pans, spices, utensils, towels, blow dryers, extra blankets and etc.

The beach front was amazing, even though the weather during our stay wasn't too warm, we still went in the water. Beach was a little rocky, but as soon as you walk about 10 feet in the water it turns to a very nice sandy bottom.

We enjoyed camp fires at night, grilling and cooking.

Wonderful place!! We will definitely be back :)

From start to finish we had a wonderful experience. The setting is amazing - secluded, peaceful, & right on the water. We loved kayaking, roasting marshmallows over the campfire, hiking & enjoying the rocky beach. We also visited the lighthouse museum, the sandy beach @ Sodus Point, and the local farm stands. We also rented a pontoon boat one afternoon to see the bay. The trip was wonderful: relaxing, informal, & with time to enjoy one another & reconnect as an extended family. We recommend the cottage highly.

Beautiful, family friendly, everything you need in place
Ellen Brooklyn

I have been staying at these cottages every summer for the past decade when I come to visit family. Though I haven't stayed as a traditional renter, I have had so many wonderful experiences at the lake. There are countless activities for my kids, (now school aged, but who have been coming since infancy). The cottages are comfy, kid-friendly, well maintained and complete with everything I have ever needed. I have spent endless days in the lake, BBQ-ing, playing lawn games, reading and exploring. If you need a change of pace, Sodus Point, with its shops, restaurants and beach is a short drive or bike ride away. Really, I feel so lucky to have access to have gotten to spend time on beautiful Lake Ontario and can't wait to go back this summer.

Tranquility at its best

This is a great property in a great location. Truly peaceful and magical setting directly on Lake Ontario is fantastic for hiking, boating, swimming, or just relaxing by the fire. Hundreds of acres of old growth forest with enormous trees, eagles, and other wildlife are an easy walk into the back. Or slip the canoe or kayak into the water and cruise the shoreline for miles. We've stayed here many times and have enjoyed every visit. Even in peak seasons there is sufficient space to feel secluded and private.

Our stay, that included our 2 dogs, was flawless. The property was accurately depicted in the photos and we had no complaints whatsoever. Especially appreciated the close proximity to the lake, altho weather was cool and we didn't go boating. View of lake from deck seemed to change every 15 minutes, something new to look at each time. Beautiful birds and the sunsets were spectacular. Jan was very helpful & congenial and we had everything we needed. Also appreciated the very large heritage trees on the property. The area was peaceful, quiet with plenty of space to roam - the dogs really loved it! We and the dogs also liked the large deck altho someone with disabilities might find it difficult to navigate down to the waterfront - just take your time because it's worth the "trip"! All in all, we had a wonderful time and felt completely at home, like staying at a family member's or friend's house. Jan took care of all details and we did try the recommended Mexican restaurant El Rincon and the food was extraordinary. We were so relaxed we didn't even do all the added sightseeing in the area that we'd planned. Got plenty of rest and hated to leave to go back to the crazy real world! Thanks, Jan, for your hospitality. We'll be back!

Perfect getaway to reconnect with nature
Jennifer Suffern

We stayed at the little brown cabin for our anniversary weekend. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a cool breeze coming off the lake and a friendly neighbor ready to show us around. We went into Sodus Point for dinner the first night and spent the night reading the amazing book collection in this house! The next day we went to the market for supplies before heading to Beechwood for a hike with the dogs. We took our kayak out in the afternoon and at sunset-- what amazing photos! We visited Maxwell's Creek just in time to experience the Salmon spawning! The lake water is crystal clear-- you can see every single fish beneath you and boy were there a lot! The cabin was an excellent homebase-- close to Sodus and Sodus Point, cozy, and clean. We cannot wait to make trips to this lakehouse a family tradition.

Our July 4th weekend
Walt Rpchester

After being cooped up in the city , staying at this cottage was such a treat. The weather was cool and windy this year but the house so snug and comfy. Family came with food for a picnic and we found everything we needed to have a wonderful time. Sitting on the deck overlooking the lake just took your breath away. While the water was too cold to take a swim, standing on the beach was rewarding. The cottage was very clean. The only problem was the stone walkway from the car park area which was a problem for getting my wife into the cottage. A handicapped person would need assistance and also may be prevented from going down the hill to the waters edge. But the view on the deck is awesome.

Nice little house except:
Barney Broome County

1: The bedrooms smelled of cat urine. It's not all the time but on a damp or humid day, it clearly smelled. The landlord assured me I was mistaken but I am not. There are many silhouette cutouts of cats decorating the house and they do allow pets. It smells.

2: When we arrived the bathroom was dirty. It was probably cleaned a bit but it was still dirty. For example the person who cleaned it wipe up, but did not move anything. Like the soap dish. I moved it on the counter and there was crud under it.

3: The microwave was dirty. There was actually spilt food inside the microwave when we arrived.

4: Every kitchen cabinet and every draw was filled with stuff, mostly junk.

There was even a dog chew toy in one of the kitchen drawers with utensils.

Groceries had to be piled on the kitchen table and counters.

5: Just about every closet and dresser drawer in the bedrooms filled with the owners stuff. There was even a draw full of women's underwear. You can not unpack.

6: The sliding screen door for the porch has a tear running halfway down the side. Good luck keeping misquotes out. It also fell off onto my daughter. She wasn't hurt.

7: Towels and linens are supplied. However the lady who cleans them has pets and when she brought over a set of sheets and linens, they smelled of cat urine also.

8: Spiders in the house. You find a few spiders crawling around every day. I even woke up one morning to a egg sack hatching out of the ceiling fan over my bed.

9: The outside is very nice, has a fire pit, nice swimming area.

So anyway if all this is acceptable to you rent this place.

Very lovely view and setting
Vicki S.

Very nice lake views, huge yard area and great swimming area for kids. The cottage was comfortable and served all our needs very well. The huge deck is a wonderful outdoor living space that we enjoyed immensely. The pictures and descriptions that are on this site are accurate at the time of our stay and show you exactly what you find here. Absolutely loved this place and we had an excellent vacation stay. We very much look forward to returning to this cottage next season!

Girl's Getaway

My girlfriends and I rented this cottage out to kick off our summer vacation back from college. We had so much fun kayaking and canoeing in the boats provided; there were even brand new paddles for us to use. The little cove is beautiful and peaceful, great for exploring. The water was too cold for swimming but at night it was incredibly rewarding to sit next to the campfire pit and watch the sunset. There were also cute farms nearby and it was close to Sodus Point so we took a little day trip. The view from this cottage is absolutely breathtaking and there was plenty of sleeping room for my friends and I. We were concerned about the potential pet or musky smell mentioned in the other reviews but all we could smell was the fresh air coming off of the lake. Also, the last review said that there was no railing leading down the to lake but that Jan, the owner, had promised to fix this issue. As promised, when we arrived at the cottage there was a brand new railing along the stairs leading down to the water. The cottage was very clean and provided all of the amenities we needed as well. Overall, we had a wonderful getaway and are definitely planning a repeat next summer!

awesome lake house
Pete M.

Our stay was excellent. The house was clean and well stocked. The deck is awesome with a great view of the lake and sunset and a nice gas grill. Down by the lake there is a nice fire pit with good seating right near the water. During the weekend we had use of multiple boats (kayaks, canoe, row boat, paddle boat) that were clean and well maintained and we had a great time out on the water. During our stay we had one day with lots of rain, but the house was very comfortable with a nice kitchen, TV with cable, and wifi that worked well so we were very satisfied staying in for the night. Jan was an awesome host and we would definitely stay with her again.

This is a great cottage for a quiet get away. We had such a relaxing time. Everything we needed was there for us. Spacious, private, and quiet, surrounded by trees. We loved the huge deck, the lake views at sunset, the private beach, and even the swing and sandbox out front for our daughter. Five minutes Sodus Point for days when you want to get out and go somewhere.

Terrific

Had a wonderful long weekend in mid-June at this house! 6 of us adults had plenty of room, and plenty of boating fun! The beach area is marvelous (bring water shoes for the smooth stone shore), and a campfire there made for marshmellows and smores!

Plenty of hiking trails out the door, and parks within a short drive. Don't miss the sand cliffs!

Terrific large deck for those BBQ's!

Thank you Jan!

We absolutely loved this place. The view from the deck is amazing, it's nice and quiet, and when you've recharged there are plenty of activities nearby including a strawberry farm (which was great in late June), Chimney Bluff State Park, Sodus bay, Sodus point, and if it rains there is plenty to do in Rochester.

The cottage is well stocked but make sure you bring some firewood.

We had a wonderful time at the cottage over labor day weekend. Jan met us upon arrival and explained where to find all lights, outdoor cushions, how to use kayaks where the life jackets were located etc. The deck was amazing. The deck had gates which was great for the 2 kids we had with us and dogs. Cottage was very clean and plenty of room for six adults. Kitchen came with everything (pots, pans, utensils, etc.). The beach area is great. Definitely bring water shoes as it is rocky.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Fiorentino cottage. The place was very spacious and clean with beautiful views of the lake, a large deck and direct access to a stony beach. The gas fireplace was a treat and the property manager was very friendly and informative. We would definitely return to this lovely property!

5 ladies needed to just get away together for a weekend and we are so glad we found this rental. It was clean and comfy and semi secluded on the water. We really enjoyed the fire circle down by the water (Bring your own wood). The beds were very comfortable and there is a gas wood burning stove to keep warm if it gets chilly. There is plenty of room for everyone to sit in the living room. I highly recommend this rental for the perfect getaway. Thanks Jan!!!

This was a fantastic place for our annual ladies Thanksgiving Weekend away. The cottage was cozy and clean with everything we needed for our stay. Although it was too chilly for water sports, the view of the lake from the back sliding windows is fantastic. We really enjoyed the gas fireplace too. We had a lot of fun exploring the old Girl Scout Camp next door, Sodus Point, Chimney Bluffs, and Thorpe Winery. Made it over to Sodus for excellent Mexican food at El Rincon as well. A delightful, relaxing holiday for us and we appreciated being able to bring the dogs! Highly recommended.

Truly a hidden gem. Very secluded on a gorgeous cove. The cabin was as advertised and more. Very clean with two large bedrooms and a panoramic view of the lake through the twin sliding glass doors. Awesome hiking behind the cottage in Beechwood State Park. I highly recommend Jan's cottages and I will definitely be back.

We were looking for a quiet place to "get away" for a few days. The listing for the cottage was accurate, inviting and peacefully pictured. It was everything that we expected; we felt right at home. It was a vast improvement over the fishing camp we used to rent! It was clean, neat, well maintained with a very helpful contact person a few doors away. She met us and showed us around. We didn't go out except to do a minor bit of shopping, so i can't comment upon the neighboring amenities. We needed a retreat, and this was the perfect spot!

don't overlook this GREAT overlook of a Great Lake
Rick H.

It's all about the SUNSETS! Every night a new experience... often changing views from day to day and sometimes minute to minute. Sunrises were almost as good, though they have a nasty habit of showing up soooo early in the morning: whos idea was that??

The deck is magnificent, and the trip down to the water well worthwhile even at cooler times. Lake Ontario is next best thing to ocean views... and better for boating. Plenty of wildlife too! Don't forget the state park on adjoining land, with easy access trails and ponds just 15-20 feet from this property line. There are TWO lighthouses nearby also: the historic (museum) Sodus Point light is impressive high on the bluff, and the newer and active pier light down by an excellent beach. Even more stunning during rough weather in my estimation. Add a very nice farm market/cafe (with Giffords ice cream!) just beyond the access road and you are set for the week.

The home itself is a bit worn but clean and comfy... I enjoyed having signs of living around me, though some may not. Jan was kinda frantic (lol) but always ready to help with information or issues that might come up. The kitchen is well stocked (saves a lot of grocery runs for things forgotten) and quite functional. I would have to say the living room furniture is in poor shape, somewhat uncomfortable, and needs replacement. Then again, the deck is well furnished and we certainly spent most of our time there, doing more grilling than we ever get around to at home. And watching the sunsets.... did I mention the sunsets?? Hahaha! We had mixed weather conditions during our stay, but EVERY day was well spent, even when we had to light up the iron stove for heat... and ambience.

The most relaxing vacation ever.

Beautiful Sunsets and lake views
Andy D.

Jan is a very good hostess. She was prompt in communicating with us. The cottage is a bit worn but cozy. This is to be expected when you are permitted to bring doggies. Our dogs had a blast walking in the state park a short walk from the cottage. Very good directions were left for the supermarket (very short drive) and the farmers market and cafe. Jan recommended the market to us and what a great pick. Outstanding pie and lunch!

It gets a bit hot in the cottage if the wind does not come off the lake. In a storm or high winds the lake is great to look at. We appreciated being able to take our dogs as they enjoyed the trip. The rental is perfect for relaxation. the listing was truthful and accurate as well. I give 4 stars because of the heat (not owners fault and she supplied plenty of fans).it would be a 5 star in the fall!

Beautiful Cottage with amazing views of Lake Ontario
Tom S.

My family and I stayed for a week in July and had a wonderful time. The home was set up perfectly for our weeks stay. Had all the extra's we needed to make it comfortable. The deck is absolutely beautiful and perfect to sit on while watching the water hit the shore, sunrise and sunset. Jan was very helpful and met us when we got there to show us around. She had a ton of information on the area and brochures available for us to see what activities were around us. She told us to contact her if we needed anything...however, we did not have any issues. :) The area is beautiful, peaceful and cozy. Short trip (5 minutes) into Sodus Point to the beach and light house. The only thing I would say negative would be the amount of stairs down to the water. (water access) This wouldn't be he cottage to stay at if you have any disabilities and can't navigate stairs well. However, they also own the cottage next door which is equally as beautiful and better access to the water. I would recommend this house to families looking for quiet, relaxing time away with their family. Thanks Jan for your hospitality....we had a great time!

Relaxing and beautiful
Sarah O.

We were very pleased to stay at this lake house for a week for our family vacation. We did use the boat rentals and were able to go out on the water a couple times within the week and enjoyed kyacking and row boating. Other days were quite windy with pretty big waves but we didnt mind relaxing out on the spacious back deck (where we spent most of our time) Being right on the lake was perfect as we could go out swimming or view the lake at anytime.

We had 5 adults and 2 children and fit comfortably in the bedrooms as well as the livingroom and dining areas. We brought our meals/food with us for the week and it was exciting to find portable pantry shelving in the front closet that we were able to pull out and use. We used the grill almost everyday and never ran out of gas. The stove seems to take awhile to boil water but as long as you use the lids it didnt seem as bad.

There did tend to be a lot of spiders BUT being on the lake that is expected. The mosquitoes are not bad as you have wind almost all the time. We had a fire a couple times and enjoyed watching the lake as the sun set. Absolutly gorgeous scenery. My 7 year old daughter was very sad to leave, as we all were!

Overall, we would deffinatly recommend this property to families and/or couples, friends as a week vacation or even a weekend get away.

Thank you Jan for providing a wonderful experience for us!

The view is incredible. The cottage sits up higher than lake level so you feel you can see forever. My family spent 1 1/2 weeks there at summer's end and came back the third weekend in October. We thoroughly enjoyed the huge deck this summer and at all out meals out there, including breakfast! The cottage has a furnace plus a gas fireplace so our cold weekend this fall was so cozy and warm. This summer we hiked in the state park at the end of our road plus took advantage of the kayaks and paddle boat that are at the cottage. We spend lots of time down by the water just looking for beach glass. If you are just looking for a great cottage in a beautiful location this is the place for you!

Relaxing holiday
Melwyn R.

My husband and I stayed at this cabin for four days. It was easy to find by following Jan's directions that she had emailed to us; a couple of days before our stay. The cabin was very spacious, well-kept and clean. The views over Lake Ontario was spectacular and we were lucky to view the beautiful sunset the first evening we were there. The kitchen was adequately stocked with kitchen utensils. The bathroom had towels and all amenities.

Jan had left a lot of flyers/booklets and useful information about various things to do around the area which was a nice touch.

We made use of the barbecue and also the fireplace; the latter contributing to cozy evenings indoors while it rained outside. Unfortunately, we weren't able to make use of the fire pit near the lake due to wind and rain.

It was nice to getaway from the city. We had a very pleasant and relaxing holiday and would love to come back!

Cheryl M.

My husband, infant son, and 2 dogs visited Ferryland Cottage mid June 2017. The cottage has an amazing view of the lake. WOW! The high water made it difficult to swim or wade, but I don't think that's typical. The home was cozy. If you are looking for a 5 star resort, this isn't it, but honestly we thought it was great (we do a lot of camping and backpacking so it was surely and upgrade for us!!) Had everything we needed for a week's stay. All essentials were included. The owner is super nice and accessible. We encountered unseasonably HOT weather and black flies which made our stay not a 5 star, but nothing to do with the property, per se, except AC would have been a perk. Such is life! We most appreciated being able to bring our dogs! It can be tough traveling with pets, but this was a pet's dream! We have a lab and he LOVED the water being so close! It is very secluded from the main road, but does have several neighboring homes. We did several excursions to the Finger Lakes for hiking, sightseeing. Close enough for day trips, for sure!

I thought the property was well maintained and very quaint.
Kariann H.

The area is so peaceful, a welcome retreat from daily life. Quiet neighbors, great views and it feels like you are in a remote location. Great place to fish, have a fire and perfect setting for late night walks to see an abundance of fireflies.

The lake is much higher than it usually is and much of the walk out areas that were accessible are now underwater. It certainly takes nothing away from the house or setting, however does make it a little tricky to maneuver kayaks and small boats in and out.

Overall a lovely cottage!!

Absolutely amazing
Daniel S.

This was the perfect vacation spot on so many levels. We'll describe some of them:

1) We were worried about having fun for all of our kids (ages 1.5, 4, 11, 13). They all had a blast. Skipping rocks, finding interesting rocks, kayaking, swimming, hiking....nobody was left out. There were kayaks, a canoe, a row boat, a paddle boat, and life jackets of all sizes on site for us to use.

2) The landscape is truly breathtaking. You're sleeping 32 steps away from the water. The sunrises and sunsets are incredible!

3) Near other great spots to explore. Chimney Bluffs are 20 minutes away, Sodus Point with a lighthouse and beach is 10 minutes away, Niagara Falls is a little over 2 hours away. Those were the places we went and enjoyed a lot.

4) The house is small (2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom), but we all fit well. Everyone was comfortable.

5) Jan is really great to work with. She was very responsive to our questions before the trip and during the trip. She gave us a tour of the house when we arrived.

To summarize: This was a great vacation spot for my whole family. We can't wait to go back again!

Not a fancy place but it is extremely relaxing, comfortable and a beautiful setting. It's one of the best vacations our family has taken. We loved the fact the deck was enclosed so we didn't worry about our dog. The sunrises, sunsets, fresh air, and water were absolutely amazing. Jan went out of her way to make sure we knew the property and ensure we had great tips about the area. We did not want to leave. Thank you for sharing your place with us.

Peaceful and Serene Lake Cottage
Susan P.

The cottage was a relaxing getaway for our family. It is set far off the main road in a community of older but nicely maintained vacation homes. Jan is extremely responsive and helpful in getting to know the area. We enjoyed the Sodus area and traveling to the Finger Lakes, too.

The house itself is a bit dated in furnishings but was very clean and the owner provides a well stocked kitchen and laundry area. (We would have given the property 5 stars if the living room furniture had been more up to date. The couches were not what is pictured in the listing. The flip side to this is that they do allow pets and I can see that newer couches would be an issue if people bring dogs that may ruin them).

Now on to more good stuff- the deck has an amazing view of Lake Ontario. We spent most of our time sitting outside soaking up the view, reading books and grilling or having a campfire. Even though we had some rainy days and were unable to use the boats due to the high lake levels it was so beautiful- we felt like we had the place to ourselves. The beach at the cottage was not really accessible but the property next door had a little larger beach access. I am sure later in the summer there is probably more beach area at both properties. There is also a lot of wildlife in the state park area- we saw foxes and deer every day.

Overall, it was a great experience and we would recommend the property. Also, the little farm markets (Youngman's and Burnap's) were almost daily stops. The salt bread and cinnamon rolls at Youngman's and pretty much everything at Burnap's are delicious and the workers are so nice. It was a great start to our summer of 2019!

Beautiful View ample space for family
Shelley B.

This home is right on the lake with a wonderful view! We found it to be clean and well stocked with items needed to BBQ on the back deck overlooking the lake to plenty of towels for the whole family. This 3 bedroom 2 bath home has a huge front and back deck for plenty of entertainment space along with a very long driveway for parking. My husband, myself, 3 teenagers, as well as my father-in-law stayed in the home while we hosted a family gathering where we BBQ on the gas grill provided and had a nice camp fire. The owner Jan, was very kind and available if we needed her and replied to emails/text messages very quickly. The only thing I would caution guest about is the cell phone service. Since we were from Texas, we have T-Mobile and we were unable to receive service. However, my father-in-law from Florida has Verizon and he was able to receive service. Beautiful property/home and worth every penny! If visiting that area again, we will book this cottage or any other that Jan is the owner of.

Very comfortable.

My friend and I were delighted with the cottage. It was more than I expected. Everything was there for cooking and grilling. A wonderful big deck looking over the lake. We enjoyed sitting there watching the boats go by, enjoying the wonderful sunset and sunrise. The cottage was very comfortable. We didn't have time for the fire ring but it looked great. We rented the cottage as there was a wedding in the family. The cottage was close. It was quiet with lots of room. 3 very clean bedrooms. We can't wait to go back. Also close to other little towns.

Beautiful Lakefront home with AMAZING Sunsets
Aly M.

My husband, two boys, and I stayed at this home for 5 nights recently. We weren't sure what to expect. We wanted to be between Webster and Sodus and this fit the bill. It was a 10 minute drive to Sodus and about 20 to Webster. When we got there and saw the 3 bedrooms we were very pleased. The master has its own bathroom then there is a Queen bedroom across from it and a "kid room" next to that. The kid room has bunk beds and a full/queen bed. All nicely done and well maintained, I might add. The hall bathroom was plenty for us. The first night we were there it had been about 90+ outside that day so it was pretty hot inside. When we figured out that the windows needed to be open we were much more comfortable the rest of our stay. I was hesitant because we like a VERY cold home and this house doesn't have central air. But, with the cross winds and the lake it was beautiful! The patio out back was perfect for the sunsets. The stairs down to the rocks where the boys spent literally HOURS skipping rocks and "catching fish" was perfect. We were very happy with the accommodations. The wifi worked great (and you'll need it!) We would definitely consider staying here again. Thank you!

Excellent Relaxing Vacation on Lake Ontario
Dr. G.

We had never heard of Sodus Point until I started looking for a cottage on the lake that was large enough for 8 adults. We had some unusual needs also, I have to be able to work while I am travel which requires Internet access. Also one of the members has a walker so we needed something that was handicap accessible. This cottage on the lake fit the bill. It is roomy with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen, large decks out back and over looking Lake Ontario. They have a large grill, multiple chairs and tables on the deck. Inside there are two dining areas, two large couches, and chairs in the living room. The cottage was nicely decorated and included all the conveniences of being home including a stove, full sized refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. While we were there the weather was excellent with only one day of rain. We had several beautiful sun sets and were able to get some great pictures. Nothing to do with the cottage but be for warned that there a limited number of restaurants and some are closed mid-week. Also there is a grocery store but it is several miles from the cottage. In Sodus Point there are several marinas where you can rent boats. Also there is a park with a beach close by.

We spent almost a week at this cottage. The view is amazing especially at sunset. The water is right down the steps. We cooked many meals and grilled out often. I was looking for a little getaway and something not too far from home, but far enough to make it seem like a vacation. This was perfect. Easy to find and not far from town, plus pretty secluded. The sunsets were amazing along with the lake view. I spent most of my time on the large deck out back. The cottage was equipped with pretty much everything you needed and was very cozy. Not only was there cable and internet, but also a DVD player as well as DVDs. Cell phone reception was hit or miss, but that did not bother me. Jan was very helpful with any questions I had and provided a list of restaurants and activities. I must recommend going to Chimney Bluffs State Park, which is only a 25 minute drive from the cottage. It was beautiful!. I would definitely stay again. In fact, wish I was still there now!

We were completely satisfied w/every part of our rental experience. We celebrated our 30th anniversary and renewed our marriage vows overlooking the lake. The lake front deck provided plenty of room for friends and family to witness our ceremony. We enjoyed amazing sunsets most every evening. We would go back again!! Enjoy!!!

Our stay at the cottage was a wonderful, relaxing time. We relaxed, explored the area and had a great experience. We stopped at Letchworth State Park on the way, went on the Sam Patch Erie Canal tour in Pittsford, and hiked at Chimney Bluffs State Park in Wolcott, NY. All were enjoyable. Not being the one to cook while on vacation, found plenty of dining options within a 10 minute drive. We dined at Abe's Waterfront restaurant and the Coop Deck, both at Sodus Point and had very good food. We were disappointed that this time of year (October) you needed a reservation at the Bay Street Hotel Restaurant, so did not get to dine there as it was our last night of the stay. Instead we went to Nick's Family Restaurant in Sodus and that was very good. We especially enjoyed sitting on the deck and looking out at beautiful Lake Ontario. The cottage itself has been modernized with marble bathroom floors, island in the kitchen, etc. The WiFi was excellent, so we were able to keep in touch when necessary, as our T-Mobile cell service was spotty. If ever in the area again, would definitely work with Jan and rent this cottage. She was very easy to work with for the rental.

The property description was accurate regarding the layout and amenities. It is well maintained, attractive, and furnished with everything needed for a comfortable stay. The deck provided a great place to view Lake Ontario. The location is convenient for visiting places of interest in that part of New York. The availability of a canoe and kayak on the property was a bonus for us. Hiking nearby Chimney Bluffs Sate Park is a must for outdoor types. Hope to return.

My mom, myself and my 3 boys stayed for a long weekend and we wished the weekend never had to end. Jan was so incredibly accommodating and responsive. We arrived late at night and walked in to an immaculately clean home, which also smelled SO good. The views are amazing and the area is very quiet and relaxing. I realize that December is off season for this area, but there were still plenty of places to eat and grocery shop.

We will most definitely be back!

Beautiful house right on the lake
Lawrence S.

This house on Sodus Shores has everything you need for a wonderful vacation: two spacious decks, steps right down to the beach, an enormous driveway capable of accommodating many cars, and three very comfortable bedrooms. The kitchen is one of the best I've yet encountered in a rental property--it has just about every tool and instrument you could need and the island is very convenient for both preparing food and hanging around. The heat worked very well in the winter and we spent many comfortable hours reclining on the chaise lounge and several soft and inviting couches. This is a terrific choice if you have kids and dogs as there's plenty of room for everyone, indoors and outdoors. It's also right off the 104 (the highway that takes you to Rochester) and only about twenty minutes from the otherworldly Chimney Bluffs Park and Sodus Point.

Perfect property for our short stay
Ginny H.

Everything was exactly as described. The property was easy to find and privately situated along the shore. The house was clean and well stocked. The view was amazing. Even though the water was rough we enjoyed watching and listening to the waves hit the shore. For just me and my husband it was perfect. A few more people and a dishwasher would be a nice amenity. Thanks for offering this nice home at an affordable price. Ginny and Bill

The cottage was clean and comfortable with ample sleep space for our group of seven adults plus a toddler. Loved the use of the kayaks to check out Lake Ontario and the view from the back deck was fantastic. Nightly sunsets were a treat. Overall a perfect home base for touring wineries and a day trip to the Falls!

Beautiful location in quiet setting.

The cottage was very quaint and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, pots, and pans for cooking. The kayaks and canoe were a nice added bonus. We were able to use them twice during the week when the waves were calm. The deck and chairs provided a nice place for lunches and dinners. We looked forward to seeing the little chipmunk that lived under the smaller deck with the bench each evening. She eagerly waited for us to bring her blueberries and cherries. We enjoyed a restful, quiet week at the cottage on Lake Ontario!

We had never been to this area and had no idea what to expect. We were more than happy with the house and the property. The view was amazing, the area is beautiful. We would definitely go again. Thank you to the owners for sharing your little peice of paradise with us! We love that it was kid friendly. There was something for everyone. We have ages 4-18 and everyone had a great time.

Great Family Vacation
Maureen B.

My family spent a wonderful week from 8/12-8/19 at this cottage. There were times when we had 7 adults and 2 dogs. The cottage was very comfortable and the outside areas allowed plenty of areas for competitive sports! The water access was a bit rocky but, we all had water shoes so, the rocks didn't prohibit us from enjoying the warm water. We truly enjoyed the kayaks for early morning and late afternoon adventures. We brought 5 tubes too which added to our fun.

We did a few trips: Chimney Bluffs, the local beach, a few wineries and breweries and several trips to the local farm market and cafe.

With so many positives associated with this cottage, we agree that the finest moments were the breath-taking sunsets.

We would recommend this cottage for anyone who wants to find a spot conveniently located between Rochester and Syracuse. The distance was easily accessible for family members that had to return to work or return for their kickball games!

...a great week at Sodus Shores!!

Jan was very friendly, she showed us everything in and around the cottage and brought fresh supplies for the kitchen and bathrooms. The cottage was cleaned before and everything was organized.

We really enjoyed our stay (4 people and one dog). The place is perfect to relax and calm down. The water access was very easy with steps. Especially our dog loved to play there!

The area is perfect to discover (sandy beach/lighthouse/ apple farms). It was perfect for us for the whole weekend!

We also got in contact with very friendly and helpful neighbors. Would love to come back!

Fantastic View
Barb M.,

The view and deck we're outstanding. It was great to have a quality BBQ on deck, we enjoyed grilling steaks one night. The cottage was well equipped. My only concerns we're that the internet worked only sporadically. Given the high winds and thick clouds it may impacted on satellite reception. My only other concern is that the home is equipped with ceiling fans in living room and bedrooms. I am 6 feet, 2 inches tall and the fans could not be used as they would have hit my head. It would appear that ceiling hugger fans might be a better choice due to the low ceilings in the cottage. We visited a local winery, went hiking at Chimney Bluff State park as well visiting lighthouse.

This cabin is situated on Lake Ontario. You can hear the crash of the waves that lull you to sleep.

It's spacious, fully equipped kitchen and the deck is awesome. There's a fire pit out front which was perfect as we were there in October.

Jan was very helpful and friendly.

Our family enjoyed spending Christmas 2017 at the cottage on Lake Ontario. It was comfortable for our family of 4. We very much appreciated that we could bring our dogs. The owner was very kind and helpful. She was very thoughtful and put up a few Christmas decorations that helped the cottage feel festive. I would recommend this property to my friends and family. The decks were snow covered but they would be awesome in the summer. Plenty of space for BBQs and views of the sunsets. Enjoy!

The view is amazing. I loved the entire area where apple trees were blooming for as far as one can see and farm animals roam free on the land. People are super friendly.

The house has 3 bedrooms with one being master with its own bath and that was the room I chose. I spent a lot of time in the living room and kitchen mesmerized by Lake Ontario, which is so huge it looks like an ocean. The name Sodus actually is Native American and means silvery water and the water changes colors throughout the day depending on the weather.

This property is in a wonderful location with beautiful sunsets and a back deck facing the lake for family time and meals. The bedrooms are well designed to easily accommodate adults and children. In the evenings the fire pit in the front of the property affords a good view of the night sky and spectacular views of the stars. There is no dish washer (not a problem, but to be noted), but having two bathrooms with showers (and one with a tub) makes the house convenient for more people to stay.

My family, including my in-laws, stayed here recently and we cannot wait to come back next year! The home was so quiet, clean, and the kitchen was stocked with items I wouldn't even think of having-down to a kuerig! We stayed here toward the end of September and although it was too chilly to utilize the lake right in the back yard, we had an absolutely amazing time. The water is so peaceful, and the entire setting was just unbelievable. The scenery was spectacular! We cannot wait to plan our visit back. Thank you so much for the awesome experience, and for the memories we will never forget here!

Our family of 4 + our golden retriever LOVED our week here and didn't want to leave. The lake is amazing, and you're far away enough from it all where it feels serene, but close enough to things to do.

It was great having 2 bathrooms & all the beds were comfy. The kitchen was amazingly stocked & the entire place was just so cozy. We truly appreciated the air conditioning, as it was the hottest week we've had this year!

Our son turned 6 the second day here & also lost his first tooth that day, so we will always remember this property fondly. We hope to come back next summer for sure!

Thank you so much, Jan!

Lake getaway

We unfortunately had extreme heat during our visit. The cottage only has a rolling AC unit in the main room which needed drained onto the deck every 5 hours or so usually shutting off at 2 am in the morning. If windows in bedroom were open several bugs entered the rooms through the screens so we chose to keep windows in bedrooms closed creating very stuffy rooms. The bathroom shower in master needs serious updating as well as the 2nd bathroom. The property also has zero beachfront we think due to the rains. Overall kind of disappointing but the view made it worthwhile. Letchworth Park a must see as well as Burnap’s farm market. Restaurants not so good so maybe bring own food to grill as grocery pretty far away. Pack jeans/long sleeves mosquitoes are hard to escape. A fire pit would be nice on the lake side might help with the bugs to sit outside at night. Propane fire pit was nice but didn’t keep bugs away. Best thing was the view! Worst thing was the outdated bathrooms and lack of central AC.

Connie K.

Everything about our stay more than met our expectations! The house was clean, well appointed, and comfortable. The neighborhood and neighbors were friendly and fun to talk to, but not intrusive in any way. Jan was an awesome host and offered insights and ideas for things to do during our stay. And that deck was awesome!!! We probably spent about 70% of our awake time on the deck. Wether we were relaxing, cooking and eating, reading, visiting with family and friends, or roasting marshmallows, this deck was a great place to be!!!! The views and sunsets are amazing!

Plenty to do nearby. We visited Sodus Point, and light house, various area wineries and farmers markets, and also enjoyed hiking on various trails, our favorite of those being at nearby Beechwood State Park, which is an abandoned Girl Scout camp, and a super interesting place to poke around at, and explore.

Thanks Jan, for a great stay. You may very well be hearing from us again in the future!!!!

We loved our stay! At first it was me, my husband and my daughter. The last two days my parents came to stay. We found the property to be gorgeous, but the pictures didn't do it justice. It was as clean as a hotel and they had amenities there for us like soap, shampoo, and a welcome basket that contained local fruit and trail mix!

There was also a small washer and dryer on site which was nice. The only unfortunate part is that the weather did not cooperate while we were there. There were a few days that the water was way too rough to go out on or to. My husband did have the chance to use the on premises Kayaks, which he loved. Now that the weather has turned at Lake Ontario, the locals were flooded. This was evident no matter where we went; but it made going in the water at this property tough. The stairs were well maintained and when the water permitted we did get down to the water, there was just no beach like in the photos due to the flooding.

Overall, the place was great and just what we were looking for. I wish the check in time was sooner and the check out time later so we could have enjoyed a bit longer! The area is great and if you look there are local things to do, but come here if you want to get away from all of the excitement and busyness of your life! A true getaway with gorgeous views and better sunsets!

We enjoyed our stay at the cottage in July. The pet friendly attitude of neighbors, restaurants and at the beach was sincere and appreciated. The beach was just a few steps away and the walk along the bay was at the other end of the block.

We used the small patio often, but this would not be adequate for more than four.

One con to address is the unkempt condition between the cottage and owners house.

We stayed at the beach house and had a really excellent time. It is quaint, clean and right on the beach! We found Sodus Point charming and relaxing and met really great people while we were there. We were met with amazing hospitality at the beach house, with a sparkling clean cottage and a personalized welcome. We enjoyed many day trips in and around the Finger Lakes Region while we were there, and were always happy to come back to our cottage at day end to cook a nice meal, and enjoy the beach sunset. I highly recommend this property for it's great value, location, and charm! Thanks to Jan, we felt welcome right away, and thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our trip to this region.

We had a great stay at Sodus Point. It was short but sweet. The cottage was perfect for the 2 of us. Everything you might need for staying on the lake. It was late in the season so there weren't many people around. The location is perfect. We walked to Captain Jack's restaurant. Great place overall.

The only down side would be is that the bathroom is a little small. So maybe not so great for the handicapped.

Family fun at Sodus Point
Christine K.

This was our first time ever in Sodus Point, we live in the Buffalo area. My children are 3 and 5 and I wanted a place where we could just roll out of bed and not have to drive to the beach. This was it! Jan made things very easy with plenty of advance information on the area, grocery, things to do. The cottage itself is a bit worn, but that makes it perfect for young kids. The living area is quite small but you're on the beach, you're not going to hang out inside. The upstairs is large, with a queen bed and two twins, and still plenty of room. The upstairs gets quite hot during the day but Jan had fans set up for a nice cross-breeze and once the sun went down we were never hot at night. The first day we got there the fridge had stopped working and Jan sent her handyman with a new fridge within an hour. Great customer service. The kitchen is well equipped, again great for families with young kids, we were able to eat at home instead of having to go out for every meal. I would highly recommend the area and this cottage in particular. We're definitely planning to come back next year.

Lovely cottage in a great location
Jennifer F.

This was our first trip to Sodus Point and we loved staying on the beach! Upon booking the cottage, Jan, the property manager, sent us a guide to the area, which included things to do, location of grocery store, post office, etc., as well as restaurants (some personally recommended by Jan). We didn't do much planning ahead of time so this guide was fantastic while we were there! The cottage was the perfect size for us (2 adults and a toddler). We had visitors two different days and parking at the beach was very easy. Sodus Point is a cute village with friendly people. There were many people walking dogs, which our 1 year old loved and most people were more than willing to spend sometime letting our daughter pet their dogs. Anyone with young children, there are two very nice playgrounds, one on the beach and one in the village. The beach at the bay is also worth checking out for those with small children because the water is much calmer than the lakeside of the beach. A few small things that would come in handy at the cottage are outlet protectors, childproof cabinet locks, a vegetable peeler, and a paring knife. We brought our own outlet protectors and bought a peeler and paring knife while we were there. We ran out of time to do some of the things we had hoped to, so we are planning to return next year!!!

This property was wonderful. We so enjoyed the upstairs loft with beds for 4 and the windows all around - what a glorious view. a little slice of heaven
Sandy C.

I needed a vacation spot fairly close to home (due to sick parent) but far enough away to feel like a true vacation. Sodus Point delivered! I had no idea such a beautiful vacation destination was so close. Finding this cottage was a stroke of luck. Location was perfect. Steps away from the beach and Lake Ontario, with Sodus Bay at the opposite end of the street. The lighthouse and pier are within easy walking distance, as are many restaurants. A diner at Captain Jack's is highly recommended - my husband said the fish fry and prime rib were excellent. I had their ribs and they were prepared perfectly. I never missed a sunset during my stay, and was never disappointed! I was able to bring my kayak and access both the lake and the bay. Campfires are allowed on the beach.

The cottage was just as advertised. When I arrived, I was met with fresh flowers, fresh raspberries, and a book of important numbers and brochures for the area. Everything was very clean and nicely organized. The pictures are a true representation of what you will find. There is a kitchen stocked with the basic utensils, a small propane camp grill, stove/oven, and microwave. Plenty of towels were provided, along with clean linens for the beds. I loved the upstairs loft. With all the windows, there was almost always a nice lake breeze to cool it down at night. Fans are also provided to help draw in the cool night air. A couple things to note: the bathroom is very tight. People of larger stature may not find this very comfortable. Also the driveway is sand. I have an AWD vehicle and had to problem negotiating it. However, my husband reused to attempt it in his hatchback.

A couple of problems arose during my stay, which I texted Jan about. She notified her handyman and he responded the same day. Very professional and courteous.

A nice thing about this property is that we were able to bring our dog along. He loves the water and was retrieving nonstop for hours. Property owners and renters were enjoying watching him play in the water. This friendly acceptance of our dog was very important to us as we wanted to include him in the fun.

I would highly recomment this property to single adults, couples. or small families. I hope to return again in the future!

The two-story former boathouse has been renovated into a charming getaway spot. The best part of the place is the second-story sleeping loft which is spacious, airy, and windowed on all sides, allowing the breezes off the lake to lull you into effortless sleep or enhance your morning reading in bed while you listen to the waves hit the beach on Lake Ontario. Perfect in its way.

Cute beach front cottage. Very clean and had a wonderful welcome binder with all the local information and menus included. We were in waking distance to everything. The bathroom was a good size and more than suits the needs but not much elbow room. I would suggest privacy window treatments as The shower seemed the only "secure" room to change. Curtains are on every window and are very tasteful but perhaps retractable blinds for upstairs would provide a privacy option for intimate situations. Brought along our large 100 lb dog and she was welcome in all areas we visited including the public beach. Had a great time and Jan was very professional and timely with inquiries.

Low-key, low-stress beach cottage on Sodus Point
Loren B.

We had a wonderful time at this property which sits directly on the beach at Sodus Point. Jan, who manages the property was extremely attentive and accomodating. We especially appreciated that we could bring our dog along! In fact, that was the major attraction of this particular house. There were many other dogs "living" close by, and the neighbors were very friendly and helpful. It was fun to make fires on the beach, and walk to the near-by lighthouse museum, where there was a Sunday afternoon concert. We even spent a day on the Seneca Lake Wine Trail, visiting many dog-friendly wineries.

We had a throughly enjoyable and relaxing experience! Thanks so much, Jan....

This property has great potential but suffers from a good deal of neglect.
Deb T.

This cottage is a charmer and the location is excellent. Out the door and onto the sand beach. My grandchildren thoroughly enjoyed swimming, rock picking, walks to the pier and playground as well as beach fires and s'mores.

Due to circumstances at the rental, I was in frequent contact with the rental agent, Jan. She was available, responded promptly and did her utmost to take care of issues. I feel she did above and beyond. That being said, there is only so much she could do. I truly thought of leaving but did not want to disappoint the kids. They came all the way from Minnesota.

The rental is certainly "rustic". It has some great potential but needs some immediate investment into it's condition. There is siding missing from the exterior. Some of the windows upstairs could not be opened. There are too few electrical outlets to operate the fans required to make the sleeping loft comfortable. The bathroom floor needs to be replaced. The refrigerator, which was dorm sized, was not functional. It was replaced the next morning. The agent spoke with the owner and they will be installing a full sized refrigerator. There were pots/pans but many are not usable due to condition. They, as well as the toaster are to be replaced. The TV quit night three. I was assured it would be replaced by the owner. That never happened. Overall, the place lacked cleanliness.

Again, I want to thank Jan for her attempts to make everything right for me and for the family. This owner appears to be difficult to deal with as far as her requests for maintenance and upkeep on the property. It's too bad as this is a charming little place in a great location

Love this property
Sandy C.

I rented this cottage last year, and liked it (and the area) so much that we came back this year. If you carefully read the description of this property and study the pictures, you will see that is an old boat house that has been converted into a small efficiency cottage. It is NOT the Taj Mahal. If that is what you are looking for, then keep searching. However, if you want a basic cottage as a place to hang your hat while you are outside enjoying all that Sodus Point has to offer, then you may want to consider this property. It is the perfect size for a single person, couple, or small family. The fact that we could bring our dog was a HUGE plus.

This cottage does have a small kitchen with a dorm sized refrigerator and a small electric stove/oven. A propane camp grill is also provided. Both are sufficient for making camp style meals. The bathroom is tiny and may be uncomfortable for people of larger stature. But again, it has all the basics. I love the open, upstairs sleeping loft. It has lots of windows on all sides which allow for a very nice cross breeze. With this many windows, expect it to get bright in the mornings. The manager has placed darker curtains over many of the windows to try to help this and to allow for greater privacy. There is no air conditioning, so it does get quite warm during the day. My experience has been that the cross breeze and fans that have been provided do a decent job cooling the loft down at night.

Jan, the manager of this cottage, is very friendly and easy to work with. When I had some problems last year, I reported them to her and they were immediately addressed within 24 hours. I also made a couple suggestions for improvements after my stay and I was happy to note when I returned this year that they had been done.

As far as Sodus Point itself, this is a charming little village. This cottage is located perfectly to enable you to access the beach, the bay, and nearby restaurants by foot. There is hiking nearby at Chimney Bluffs State Park, plenty of places to kayak, and of course, swimming and sunbathing. As I mentioned earlier, the beach is very dog friendly. Our Golden Retriever was exhausted each night after spending hours swimming and playing. We would definitely return here for a future vacation!

Sandy Beach Sodus Point Cottage
Laurie W.

A was a bit frightened by some previous reviews, did I make a mistake? When I pulled up and unlocked the door, I was pleasantly surprised. It is what it is---a cottage --not to be confused with a Condo. The sleeping loft was PERFECT for my grand teens, and I was happy to see a futon in the small living area for me. It's a perfect location with teens because they have plenty of "walk to" options (Beach, Snack Bar, downtown) . It was a perfect location for me as a base for photography day trips to Chimney Bluffs, Sterling Nature Center, Oswego, and lots of country

roads. The bathroom is very small, but it was only a week, I could make due. Unfortunately this is the summer of rain, and there were no campfires or roasted marshmallows for us. The grandteens thought it was "so cute" and that made me happy. Bottom Line, it was within my budget, and I felt the money was well spent, we made many great memories.

I loved the tiny beach house and location
Linda W.

We had a very relaxing week. We loved the tiny beach house and the location very much! The view of the home in front, which I believe has the same owners as the beach house, could be tremendously improved. There was a very unattractive gazebo that was in significant disrepair and several brick piles lying around, both of which were an eye sore and distraction from the view of the lake.

Perfect for what we wanted
Melissa G.

It is exactly what it says it is and my 12 and 10 year olds thought it was a cool old place. Need I say more? We usually trek to the East coast oceanside to get this experience. Waves lapping the sandy beach, beautiful Lake Ontario is within sight and sound. Love waking up to that. A short walk to the end of the driveway, maybe 4 car lengths long, and there is gorgeous Sodus Bay at the other end of the street. Restaurants and shops all within walking distance. It was exactly what we needed and the shortest drive to get to it that we have ever had. We will be back!

Good place without the frills.
Barbara V.

I love to stay there on the beach and be able to see and hear the wave just sitting outside the door. My complaint: Fix the outside. I do hope the outside table gets replaced very soon as I'm staying there again soon. My company and I had several spills and lost food as the table legs are broken. Also the brick on the ground needs to be finished or taken out. It makes for a very uneven ground especially for those with a balance problem, unfortunately that's me.

Wish there were a patio or porch that you could sit on and look out at the water- the cottage in front of the little place blocks almost the whole scene. Wonder if no one is in the big house in front of the little place if sitting on that deck is OK? That would be terrific!

Vivian R.

This little yellow cottage was very clean and the furniture very comfortable. The cottage has a large living room, dining and kitchen area. The Master bedroom has a large window with a view of the water from the bed. I kept all the windows open for the perfect breeze throughout the whole cottage. The bathroom is comfortable and she shower was great. I had a girls weekend and this cottage was perfect get away. With the covered side porch we basically spent one whole day there having wine and ordered pizza (which actually got delivered). Great spot to relax, enjoy friends, boat, bbq, and if you so desire swim off the dock. It is 20 mins to Sodus Point and to Fair Haven if you are looking for large sandy beaches. Take a day trip to wineries. We had dinner one night in Sodus Point and took a wine tour in the fingerlakes. I plan on going back to this little yellow cottage as much as I can and would recommend this spot to anyone. I had a brace on my foot and had no trouble getting around the cottage and yard. There are steps to get to the cottage, but also a drive way the neighbors let me use. everyone is very friendly there.

I had a wonderful holiday weekend away with my family. We loved being right by the water and spent lots of time by the fire pit and paddling the bay. The location was convenient to several wineries, a cidery and a few breweries. The house itself was clean. Good place to spend a long weekend
Serg S.

We (two couples and friend) had been there from June 30 to July 3. I like this place. There is quiet outside and clean inside. The beach and good parks are close and easily accessible. The manager Jan is a nice and helpful person.

Some negative comments: There is no Internet, only fans instead air-conditioning, the door inside bathroom didn't lock. Generally I recommend to spend there a few days.

Clean sweet cottage A+
Jennifer G.

Cottage was beautiful. Clean and much more spacious than expected! Traveled with our two teenagers, two dogs, husband and myself. Plenty of room. Bathroom was very clean which is such a plus. Stairs are a bit of a hike but can be avoided if you ask permission to access from other properties! Jan was a pleasure to work with!

Very cozy cottage

We really enjoyed our stay here. Nice view of the bay and spacious little cottage. The beds could be a little more comfortable but it was well worth the money.

We really enjoyed our stay at Sunshine Cottage. It is a quaint cottage with a spectacular view
Sandra K.

This is a cottage and was everything we expected. It was exactly as described. The view was spectacular. The only thing missing for us was air conditioning, but we would stay here again regardless.

Place was cozy but was told I could swim off shoreline and use community dock. Would of been stuck in weeds if I tried to swim and dock was six ft long and in need of obvious repair. Also not owners fault but place down below had 2 annoying dogs who constantly barked! Was nice place and enjoyed the view and fire pit at night was great! Would recommend for a quick getaway!
